[Rhetoric] On The Horizon

Welcome to my first Humanities Action Project of the year!  This term's course is called rhetoric, and we're going to be taking a deep dive into rhetoric and how the public views it. In the last week, we have taken a look at A Peoples History of the United States, which is a book that takes a look at US history in a different light than is normally taught in schools. It tries to tell from the people, not the leaders as so often happens in history. We read the first chapter which details Christopher Columbus's arrival in America. For this Action Project, we had to create a picture book that describes what Columbus did in America without being too intense for kids. We took a trip to the Harold Washington Library Center to get into the writing style of picture books meant for small children. I took on an extra challenge by trying to make mine "minimalistic" by having no words and simple pictures while still trying to convey the message. Here it is!

So that concludes the orientation week projects! These two were slightly more laid back than future action projects because they were just for getting a feel of how the rest of the year is going to go. I enjoyed the creativity and challenge this Action Project brought upon us. If I were to do something differently I'd probably commit more time to this as I know I could make it just a little bit better with the time frame given, but other than that it was a very good AP!
